FCPS Boundary Lite

Was that adopted last night? It looked like it from what I could find but I wanted to see if anyone knows for sure.

Yes, with an amendment to clarify there would indeed be public notice prior to Board action on boundary changes.

So they have to give notice, but not hold hearings?

They would provide notice of publicly-held meetings "in the affected school communities" prior to Board action on a redistricting proposal, but they don't have to hold separate hearings.

So, for example, they could have public informational sessions at the affected schools (or a nearby building) before making a decision, but not hearings at Gatehouse where dozens of speakers each get three minutes to testify why they favor or oppose a proposal.

...and they didn't leave the ink dry for long...less than 24 hours before annoucing public meetings for a proposed Freedom Hill/Vienna boundary change for next Wednesday/Thursday.

Can you link to that, PP?

Is this to move Freedom Hill ES kids who go to Madison to Vienna ES? If so, wouldn't people be happy since most of Freedom Hill goes to Marshall?

It was in an email from our principal that was sent out about 1/2 hour ago... Nothing I can link to.

Wow! That was fast. I figured Freedom Hill would be one of the earlier ones. Are they sending to Vienna not Lemon Road?

Already sent some to Lemon Road this school year; the other "promised" space for a second round went to the new AAP Center at Lemon Road.

Not necessarily...it really screws AAP kids in LLIV at Freedom Hill if they are in Town of Vienna. The Level III AAP kids in the Freedom Hill LLIV classes won't have access to the curriculum they have already started (some kids would take the same math a second time). The Center eligible LLIV kids not already at Archer will end up at Colvin Run without transportation (see the other thread on that one).

They wouldn't have students repeat a math year. My sons' school had "compacted math" well before they had LLIV. So, They might already have an advanced math class. If they don't, they can take math with the grade above them until 6th, then in sixth be pulled out for math in a small group- that is the way Lemon Road did it for years. I would expect that they would have the students go to Lemon Road, like they will next year, rather than Colvin Run.

Freedom Hills new AAP Center is Westbriar not Lemon Road; Vienna's is Archer and closed above 3rd Grade.

Regarding the compacted math- I specifically asked about at Vienna El. I was told that they do not even START compacted math until 6th grade. I know they are supposed to, but it's not being implemented.

Sounds like this is a done deal. Makes sense, too.
