| What's the skinny? Please be honest. |
| I'd like to hear too. |
| is it a bad sign that no one has responded? |
| I know nothing about what goes on inside the school but I do know that its in a good neighborhood and they nearly always means that the school is fine. |
| Our DD is there and we've been reasonably satisfied. Principal seems good, school is less overcrowded than some, families are a mix but overall affluent and value education and parent involvement. Most of the teachers have been fine, with one or two clunkers (but I think you find that everywhere). |
| We're not affluent by far. We would be staying with relatives while my husband is deployed. Will my kids get teased? |
Of course not. The other kids won't have any idea. Even if they did it would be just the opposite. Montgomery County students don't know many people who are in the military. I'd think that they would be interested. |
Agree, and Tilden is less affluent than the other middle school in the Walter Johnson cluster (North Bethesda). I think it's a bit more down to earth as a result. And WJ is more down to earth than the other Bethesda high schools, especially Whitman. |
| We are two years away from going to Tilden, but live across the street and heard good things about it from neighbors. People like the new principle (Ms. Baker?). And if the kids are anything like my son's peers in elementary, the school can't be too bad. |
| Ms. LaGrange is the Tilden principal; Mrs. Baker is the newish prinical at WJ. Both seem to be pretty good to me. I've heard the former WJ principal (can't recall his name) was amazing but got promoted out. |
| To the PP who said not many kids know military families? We are at North Bethesda MS and know many military families--especially from Ashburton. |
|
Mr. Garran. Old WJ principal.
Mrs. Garran Ashburton principal is very nice too! |
|
PP Military Family - We moved to our house in this school zone for two reasons: proximity to work and the schools. The WJ cluster has good schools all the way down to elementary. Tilden has a good reputation and we know people who tell us that they like it (my kids are in elementary school).
As for getting teased, I think any middle school has this kind of stuff taking place. I know of one case there was a problem with some kids at Tilden, but it sounds like the school took care of the issue. I don't think Tilden would be any different than other options in MoCo. I do think families in this zone care about education. |

I know this is an old thread, but let me take this opportunity to say that Ms. Lagrange is hands down the best school administrator I dealt with in my kid's entire MCPS experience.
She is a parents dream come true (welcomes input ,genuinely enjoys working with pre-teens, great values, genuine). Teachers felt supported by her as well. A treasure. |
| I went to Tilden in the late 1980s, and now my life has deteriorated to the point that I read DCUM. Probably best not to send your kids there. |
