| If your kid was ordered to remain on a football field, during a thunderstorm, by a school coach, what would your reaction be? And these kids were holding metal sticks playing lacrosse. |
| Look, people don't become sports coaches for their brilliance. |
| I dont think you'll find anthing other than people responding that they would be pissed. Is there a point to this question? Or did you think this was controversial and you might have over-reacted? |
| I would be all over the coach, the administration, the school, the athletic program. |
| Yes, you should complain to the coach and then talk to your kid about what he/she is to do in the case this happens again. |
| I think I remember when I was a kid there was a local kid who was hit by lightning under such circumstances (this was montgomery county maybe 20-25 years ago?). That's not ok, either way. |
|
This is something that needs to be brought to the attention of the athletic director and the principal; don't just speak with the coach!!
|
| My kids play lax at a high level and I have seen some bad behavior by coaches. I usually let it go but this would make me go BALLISTIC! What a MFAsshat. Those kids would have died if they had been struck by lightening. What in God's name is WRONG with this guy's head. Clearly, he has zero common sense and should NOT be coaching a bunch of kids. |
True, I was at that game. http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1991-05-19/news/1991139043_1_landon-school-albans-school-school-plans |

A local community leader was killed by lightning just a few years ago. If you can hear thunder, you are in range of being hit. It can travel up to 10 miles in a single strike.
http://www.lightningsafety.com/nlsi_pls/ncaa.html I would definitely call the principal and/or athletic director. |

Throw an absolute fit.

Every youth league has rules about this. If it is a league, go tho the head of the league....if it is school, go the the principal.
I have seen nazi coaches....I called a game with the storm approaching, and the other coach called me a wimp. In front of the girls. (8U softball). The commish was not happen. |
| Noah eig. Sta Landon lacrosse game. He was huddled under a tree, worst place to be in a thunderstorm. Probably would be safer to throw the sticks far away and then lie down in the middle of the field. Was the coach making them continue to play, or just making sure they were not dispersing to a more dangerous place like the trees, which is what happened when Noah was killed? |
| I was at that game in high school. Huge, dramatic derecho-looking storm. I believe they had stopped play but some students and parents stayed near the field, under trees. A very big crowd. Aside from Noah Eig, which was awful and tragic, a bunch of parents and kids ended up in the hospital from sta, holton, Landon. |
| Yes, two boys died (one later) on the playing fields of St. Albans, May 17, 1991. Here's an article on it. Please go wave it under the coach's and principal's nose. ww.apnewsarchive.com/1991/One-Killed-10-Injured-as-Lightning-Strikes-at-School/id-c03806f31f1a42f9c8be8b5b3ef44f30 |
