SEC ALJ asst job

Anonymous
The SEC just posted a job for some kind attorney-adviser to the ALJs (see below). Does anyone know if this is a good job? Would an attorney doing this job be able to move into enforcement or another division of the SEC after a few years? I'm thinking of applying for the job as a way of getting in the agency, but I want to make sure it's actually a good job first--would not want to apply to something that limits your possibilities within the SEC more than it expands them.

Also, can anyone explain how the pay scale works? The announcement says that the pay grade is SK-12 and that the job has a salary range of about 80K to 135K. If someone comes in with a little more than the minimum experience (1 year), do they start out at the 80K salary, or do they start out somewhere in the middle?

Finally, what is the general sense re: furloughs? Apologies for the barrage of questions ... just want to make sure I understand all aspects of this job before going too far with this process...

I would apply anyway and negotiate the salary when hired. This is what most people do at any job hunt.

Be prepared. I think that job will garner a ton of applicants.
