Last day FCPS June 18-how early?

Figuring out my work schedule. What does early closing mean? Do they get out 2 hours early?

The last day of school is usually about two hours long. My DC's middle school has every class for ten minutes (7 classes). Iti is ridiculous. No lunch either. It bascially is as long as the buses take to get back to the school. Busses pick HS and drop off at school, then they pick up MS students and drop off at MS, then they go to early opening ES, then late opening ES, then they go back the HS to pick the students up and drop them home, then they go to the MS, then to the early starting ES, then the late starting ES. And the day is done.

It is much earlier than the Monday halfday at ES schools.

At our elem. school is is around 2 hrs. of "school time" -- which is just stupid. I normally don't advocate skipping school, but the last Mon. and Tues. school days are a waste of EVERYONE's time. Why don't they just close it out on a Friday and end the madness.

They did last year and it was nice. DC won't be attending Tuesday although will probably stay for the half day Monday.

FCPS ended on Friday last year because we didn't use all the "inclement weather" days built into the school calendar. No luck with that this year - http://www.fcps.edu/about/12-13cal.shtml

My kids enjoy the last "day" of school (about 2 hours of actual time at school) because it's an opportunity to say goodbye to friends and teachers, and share in the excitement and fellowship of the last "moments" of the school year. There is usually a party hosted by the moms at the bus stop when they come home. Other than that, it is a royal pain in the arse for us working parents.

At my school (I don't know about others), it's also the day we hand out the Progress Reports. We aren't supposed to pass them out any earlier.

Can you pick them up at the school in the morning or later in the day?

Come to think of it, we don't take attendance on the last day.

Good. We need care all week and it will be a pain in the neck to get my child there for 2 hours.
