Joe's movement emporium

Does anyone send their DC to Joes for After Care? If so what are your thoughts/impressions?

My kids didn't go there but their classmates used to walk there from CFMS. I would see the Joe's staff walking with them and thought they did a fine job with that. The CFMS kids used to get there first, then another crowd would come from another school and the place would get chaotic. Not terrible but a little too much at times. At least that's what I heard from the kids. CFMS moved so there aren't CFMS kids at Joe's any longer.

My son used to go there, but he has aged out.

Positives:
It's the only aftercare game in town and it's reliable.
The variety of what the kids are exposed to is great.
The kids get exercise.
It's affordable.
The program seems to get better every year they do this.

Negatives:
After a long day at school (which had very strict discipline), there really wasn't enough unstructured decompression time.
Part of the reason for the above was that the folks running the program were rather inexperienced themselves, and not really always able to handle unbridled pent-up kid energy, IMO.
The homework that my child was assigned at school wasn't getting done there. Now there are lots of good reasons for this, but as he got older, the homework load got heavier, and it became a bit of an issue. Fortunately, he also got more responsible about it as he got older.

Thanks for the feedback. My daughter has been asking to take dance classes and I thought I might be able to kill two birds with one stone with Joes.....

22:43 here - I think Joe's is good enough. Go for it.

I think Joe's is the best aftercare around. They are also one of the few licensed aftercares. My daughter LOVES Joes and she has been exposed to capoeira, drumming, dancing, puppetry and all different kinds of art projects. They just had their final performance of the year and wow! The kids were all very serious about their performance and did awesome. When I ask her about her day, she almost always brings up things she learned at Joes. Any issues that came up were dealt with in a professional manner and everything is just top notch and the people there seem to actually enjoy working with kids which I can't say for other aftercare programs.
