Island same color as cabinets or no?

Have older honey cabinets, island is slightly darker, appliances are stainless and a granite counter.. redoing cabinets in white, i can't decide if we should leave the island a different color or make it white too? The kitchen opens up to the eating area and den, so we spend a lot of time in this space. I don't know if having them 2 colors is too trendy, i need this to last a while.

It sounds like you already have a few colors going on. I would pick one of the existing colors and go with it.

I would only do different cabinets for the island if you're also planning to do a different countertop. For example, white cabinets with black or charcoal counters and a walnut-colored island with a cararra marble top would be beautiful.

Of course, you're right about the look being trendy. Who knows how long this particular trend will last.
