Walking distance to metro--what is your cut off?

One mile? 1.5? What is realistic for a daily commute? Curious what people consider walking distance...

No more than 15 minute walk, to me.

15 min.

About a mile, which is also about 15 minutes for me.

I lived 1.35 miles from Vienna metro in my last house, and it wasn't a bad walk, but I chose to drive and park about 95% of the time.

We are 0.75 miles, and that's fine. it is 10 minutes. I think much over 1 mile would get tough to do every day (e.g. in 100 degree heat in August). Maybe 1.2 would be my cut-off.

1 mile is the max (and we did it for years), 1/2 mile is ideal (and what we achieved when we bought).

1 mile is fine in normal weather, but in the summer heat and/or rain it becomes a slog.

I should add that we regularly walk longer than 1 mile and enjoy being in an area where that's enjoyable, but that's different from a commute where you don't have the option of going earlier or later depending on weather or smog conditions.

15 minutes at a somewhat leisurely pace.

I walk about 1.5 miles home from the metro most days, but I'm really glad I have other options for when it's pouring rain or sweltering hot.

I think 1.5 miles is fine if there's a bus or you can drive on a bad day, and if it's a nice walk, e.g. I recently walked 1.5 miles along 355 to the Twinbrook metro to pick up my car from the dealer. I'd hate to do that walk every day. But I walk through a leafy neighborhood and across a park.

I live 0.75 miles to metro, and ideally it would be 0.5 mile. It's shirt enough not to add considerable time to commute and be doable in any weather. 0.75 is bearable, anything longer and lazy factor would win over the walk gene.

depends on the metro--how many people are out at different times of day? what is the topography? etc. I live about 1/3 mile from Waterfront and it's great. I'd walk over a mile to Braddock Road through Del Ray, but less than that to Cleveland Park (it's hilly!). I go to Anacostia a lot for work and would only want to live within 3-4 blocks of the metro if I were going to walk home after dark.

About 0.5 mile

Same, with strong preference for a visually appealing walk.
