I understand that the mosquito control companies spray poison that kills bees. (I understand that the poison confuses -causes some brain damage?- and the bees cannot find their way to the hive). Since we are already having a problem with our bee population and we depend on bees, I would like to go the natural route to control these little biters. I know about mosquito dunks for standing water (which we put inside the bottom of our basketball goal). Does anyone have any other ideas, including plants or anything else? |

Dumping standing water and encouraging neighbors do the same. Keeping gutters clear helps.
It's amazing how little mosquitos need in terms of water to breed in and how few people actually dump the water: http://www.ivillage.com/get-rid-standing-water-protect-mosquitoes/4-a-372726 In terms of plants, here's a list; not sure how truly effective they are, but couldn't hurt: http://www.motherearthliving.com/health-and-wellness/natural-mosquito-control-methods-zmez12jazmel.aspx?ViewAll=True |
| I've sprayed vinegar on patio and plants the day of event, which seems to help. Also, you can google a homemade garlic spray to use. Also, get a fan. Citronella candles around your perimeter. |
