DC contractors for historical restoration?

| We own a DC rowhouse that was gut renovated a few years back. It is very nice, but I would like to restore some historic details: not a full scale renovation, but replacement of doors, installation of some new built-ins and lighting, etc. Any suggestions of who might be good for this? |

| There was a contractor on the Hill - Thor something. I would look for contractors who have worked on Capitol Hill or in Logan Circle and Georgetown, etc. |

Talk to the guys at the Brass Knob in Adams Morgan, who can offer you a selection of architectural and decorative details ripped out of other houses during their own ill-advised gut renovations as well as good leads and advice.
Since it sounds like your home doesn't retain its own details, you don't really need someone to preserve and polish. You probably just need someone to install whatever salvaged finishes you're able to buy. Lots of companies make reproduction lighting and hardware, including Rejuvenations and Schoolhouse lighting. This may be more than you wish to do, but it's possible to buy salvaged floorboards, too. |
