I feel like 1/2 the parents I talk to think they are great for exercise and lots of fun.
The other 1/2 feel like they are round death traps. Would you get one? I really like the idea and they take up less space than a swing set. |
| We had one for the last 5 years (kids are now 12 & 11). They used it daily and it was a big hit with the neighborhood kids and friends however, insurance made us get rid of it. |

They are great for exercise and tons of fun! I love using them myself! That's why I signed my kids up for gymnastics classes, where they can use them in a controlled environment to learn skills safely and correctly, and where the instructors drill in important rules, particularly the one about one person on a trampoline at a time.
Backyard trampolines are asking for trouble. Kids bounce unsupervised and do skills they shouldn't do. Or they bounce multiple kids at a time, which is so incredibly dangerous. |
| Kinda trashy. Unless foxes are playing on them. |
Really? We live in a nice neighborhood ($800k + houses) and have one. Your assumption is a little out there. |
Whatever, I find McMansions trashy too. |

My ex bought our daughter a small one - about 5x5 with a tall netting around it. She doesn't actually use it much. I do like that it's not large so it can be moved around and doesn't have to have a permanent spot in our yard. (which would kill my grass.)
I wouldn't have spent the money - as I said, she doesn't use it much. She'd rather go to the playground and play with other kids. If you have multiple kids it might be more fun, but then they'll fight over who can use it. |
| AAP recommends against home trampolines. 98,000 ER visits a year for trampoline injuries. |
| We love ours! We had a bunch of neighbors over for pizza tonight; the parents hung out while kids jumped on the trampoline. Sometimes if it's just a few friends, we hook up the hose and the kids splash and jump. We've had it for 6 months and the worst injury is a bumped head. |
And you know this because? We have had a trampoline in our backyard since my oldest was about 4 or so. She is almost 14. The 3 yo loves jumping on it. I have rules. They dont jump unless supervised, they dont try crazy tricks, and they only go on one at a time. I dont allow neighborhood kids to come in and use it (even though the kids across the street bugged the heck out of my older one about coming in the back yard and I firmly said nope, sorry). When we first got it, my bff's kids (teens) wanted to give it a try and I said only if your mom is willing to come up and watch and take responsibility. They did a couple times, with mom right there with them, novelty wore off and they never came back.
It has worked out well. |
| We have both and the kids use the tramp way more often then the swing set. We are thinking of getting rid of the swing set |
Haha you are the trash that can't get one |
| I've heard it can be. An issue with your homeowners insurance - might want to check. |

I'm a gymnastics coach and I think if you get one you should first enroll your kid in a trampoline class. They will learn spatial awareness in a safer atmosphere and then you can have more piece of mind while they are playing on it. Also there should NEVER be more than one person jumping on it at a time. That is how many injuries happen.
They are great for exercise, but they aren't very big so making a mistake result in injury very easily. |
Ooh buuurrrnnnn.
