I find Whole Foods isn't any more expensive than regular stores if you tend to buy organic either way and stick to basics (veggies/fruits/meats/basic staples). Their store brand organics are great and cheap.

If she's buying a bunch of packaged overpriced crap, then yeah, that sucks.

We eat organic and are a household of five (three adults and two elem. aged boys). We spend about $1200 a month.

Whole Foods is crazy expensive. I once popped in with a friend and bought a single peach. It was $4.

Go to h-mart. You will fill a cart high with great fresh produce for very little money. I buy organic sometimes, especially for meat, but whole foods is just crazy expensive. Look at their profit margins.

We're a family of four and we easily spend $1200/month on groceries, plus eat out once or twice a week.

We are a family of 6 (including nanny) and I spend about $2000 a month shopping almost exclusively at whole foods (I buy paper products elsewhere). I don't buy much packaged stuff though.

Or, maybe OP's wife is using her debit card to withdraw cash at Whole Foods to build up a nest egg so she can leave.
