| I'm a bit embarrassed to have to ask this, but are there any bulk rices that don't have to be rinsed before cooking? I. Hate. Rinsing. Rice. Totally ridiculous and irrational but it drives me crazy enough that I buy the "Texmati" stuff that doesn't need to be rinsed. Alternatively, any suggestions for a foolproof rinsing method? |
| I just put it in a fine mesh strainer and give a quick cold water rinse. I was appalled at the white dust that came off some basmati once and decided that it was worth the 30 seconds to rinse. |
| I never rinse my bulk rice. I like it somewhat sticky. |

Yeah, american rice is saturated with arsenic. No amount of rinsing is ever going to remove the result of decades of heavy metal and arsenic saturation in US rice fields. This means ALL rice products, INCLUDING ORGANIC:
CONSUMER REPORTS-
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2012/11/arsenic-in-your-food/index.htm "Organic rice baby cereal, rice breakfast cereals, brown rice, white rice—new tests by Consumer Reports have found that those and other types of rice products on grocery shelves contain arsenic, many at worrisome levels. Arsenic not only is a potent human carcinogen but also can set up children for other health problems in later life. Following our January investigation, "Arsenic in Your Juice," which found arsenic in apple and grape juices, we recently tested more than 200 samples of a host of rice products. They included iconic labels and store brands, organic products and conventional ones; some were aimed at the booming gluten-free market." |

11:15, fyi, many recipes call for rinsing rice in preparation not necessarily to rinse off impurities.
OP, try not rinsing. If the rice comes out okay the way you like to prepare, then you've saved yourself a step. If not, you're back to rinsing or maybe trying a different method of making rice. |

Basmati is the only rice I rinse, because it turns out nicer if you wash off some of the starch. The water turns milky white.
Long grain rice doesn't do that. So I don't rinse it. Guess I'll die of arsenic poisoning along with everyone else. |
| I never rinse rice, but didn't know about the arsenic. Yikes. |
Me too, if the mercury in all the fish I eat doesn't get me first. Don't care...we all have to go sometime. |
Yes. I steadfastly refuse to alter my pattern of living in anyway even if leads to my or my family's immediate or excruciating death, because, fate. |

Or, mortality. But I'm sure whatever organic stuff you're feeding your kids will ensure their immortality. |
