Dentist Income?

Husband is a dentist and we are thinking about moving to the greater DC area. Does anyone know how dentists are doing in the area and how much dentists who own their own practice are making?

No idea, but mine is about my age (early 30s) and joked the last time I saw him about his student loans. He and another one own the practice though, so that's something.

Is your husband a specialist or general dentist? I am a specialist and rake in 200k in a bad year. I know specialists who rake in 500k (they own their practices). It is a very prolific profession in D.C.

I doubt regular dentists make more than $200K here, and the cost of living is insane.

A cleaning goes for $125 - $150 if that helps. Maybe a cavity is $250. Adult films $150.

Distasteful but telling.

Also, I think you mean "lucrative", not "prolific".

I am the pp: Oral surgeon and I perform a lot of cosmetic procedures that Plastic surgeons perform. I am not your drill and fill type of dentist.

How much would an endodontist make?

My husband is a general dentist. He is really good at his job and does everything but braces. He places a lot of implants. This year he made $540,000. He is 42 years old. He owns his own office and has seven dental chairs.

My father just retired in this area, he made about 500,000 a year average as a general dentist (DMD). He worked 3 days a week and had an ortho who rented the space the other two who paid him a percentage.

He made a lot more when he was younger and worked 5 days a week. Depends where you practice (obviously) and how long it will take you to build you practice.

Right now is tough, because for some reason there has been a huge increase in DDSs to this area.

Good luck!

DH is a dentist and makes around 320k with his own practice. He has some peers that are around 400-500k. Dentists do a lot more than the procedure I listed above. Big revenue comes from crowns and root canals.
