Does anyone have any experience with cancelled ultrasounds at GW MFA? I was scheduled to have my anatomy scan last Tuesday and they had to cancel due to not having a sonographer that day. It was only my second appointment with the practice as I just switched from Capital Women's Care but the person who called made it sounds like this happens frequently. They couldn't get me in until this Thursday and I'm worried about them cancelling again. I am approaching the 22 week mark so I'm not sure what to do if they cancel again and don't have openings for another week and a half.
Has anyone had a similar experience or was this likely a one off cancellation? |
That sounds odd since they have more than one sonographer. Did you try a different one? Did you try I St or M St? |
My appointment was for the I street location, sorry should have clarified that. They said they could get me in at M street but still not for a week so I just opted to wait the 2 extra days. I thought it was odd as well and that with such a large practice they would have more than one but they just said they didn't have a sonographer on staff that day. She also said that "when this happens, they typically send someone from the M street location" which is what made me think it happens frequently. |
I think there are just a lot of sonographers at GW. There is also the imaging center on K st as well as sonographers in the hospital. |
Do you have to have your US at GW? I am with GW (midwives) and just went somewhere else (GWMFM in my case). I didn't even need a referral, although I had paper copy of one. I have BCBS Fed. |
I believe there are 3 sonographers at GW -- Slava and Corinne at I Street, Greg at M Street. All are good (though Slava's our favorite), so there's no harm in switching to someone else if it means you get a quicker appointment. I've never had them cancel on me (and we've had a LOT of ultrasounds there...) |
Greg was REALLY grump during my apt a couple weeks ago. He was basically chastising both me and the baby for the baby' position. Sometimes I can be overly sensitive but my partner is not, and he had the same impression. |
10:50 here -- this is so interesting, because we too had a Greg appointment two weeks ago, and we noticed he was unusually subdued. He was really quiet, sighed heavily a few times during the sono. It actually made us a little worried that there was something wrong with the baby that he wasn't telling us!
But our previous experiences with him have all been very good, even when he's had to deliver bad news to us. We chalked up the most recent interaction to the fact that he has a newborn at home -- we figured maybe he was sleep-deprived. |
Slava at the I street location is fantastic - fast, uber knowledgable, kind. She has been running behind a few times, but I've never once had her cancel on me. |
Another big fan of Slava! She's the best. |
This is totally off topic, but I had a weird experience with Greg for my 20 week ultrasound. He sent me to the bathroom twice to try to get the baby to move by emptying my bladder. While I was gone the second time, he told my husband that he was almost sure it was a girl. So, he basically told my husband the sex when I wasn't there and my husband had to fake surprise when I came back and Greg told us together a couple minutes later. Then my husband came clean to me about it after we left. This was about a year ago. |
Greg told me (said he slipped up which could be possible but still) the sex of my 3rd after I explictly told him we did not know & did not want to know. I was so pissed. |
I thought Greg and Slava were both awesome. Really enthusiastic and quick to re-assure that all was well (none of those odd long silences that make you assume you have a serious issue). I never had a cancellation for an ultrasound BUT when I went past my due date, I had one heck of a time getting a regular appointment w/Larsen..it was as if my going past the due date was unusual..annoying, but probably blown out of proportion in my mind..you know, first time mom, old, etc. |
Slava is awesome. Laura, one of the midwives at GW, said she is the top sonographer in the area and that it's worth waiting to get an appointment with her. |
Greg has a newborn (or at least a very young baby). Cut the man some slack! |
