2 cans of tomato paste and 3 cans of tomato sauce?
i never make sauce, really, so i don't know how to. any advice on if i can make a go of it with this for lasagna? |
| Sure. Add some fresh basil, dried oregano, parm cheese, and whatever else you like in sauce. |
|
I am the pp from above. I would only use a tablespoon or two of the paste. Sauté some onions and garlic, then add the paste. Then everything else.
|
| Add a little balsamic to sweeten it. Not much - not more than 1-2 tbsp. |
| thank you. about how long do i have to let everything simmer for the sauce? |

Careful with tomato paste, if you're a rookie. It must be cooked down to elimante the raw canned taste. Put it in a sauté pan over medium/med-low heat for a couple of minutes. Or start with the paste for your sauce in a larger pot and cook it first and and add some spices to the paste (dried, I assume, if you're limited on ingredients--oregano, basil, garlic or even onion powder...) then add the sauce and simmer.
I've used a recipe for bolognese that used milk (pioneer woman), so you could try adding that. If you have fresh onion and some carrots, you can throw them in the food processor and cook until soft before adding the other stuff. |
| Actually, cook the paste over medium, not med-low. |
| If you're not much of a cook, which it sounds like youre not, just go to a place like Whole Foods or Trader Joes and buy a good quality jarred sauce. I'm of Italian descent and can make good sauce, but for something like this I will often use a jar. |

Agree with pp. I use Newman's sockarooni sauce and it tastes great. Don't kill yourself over the sauce. Lasagna is a pretty easy recipe. Don't complicate it. Bon appetite!

| You don't have Google either? Is it an epidemic? |

Most important:
GO BUY NO BOIL NOODLES. That's usually the worst part of making lasagna. Carry on. |
| Just follow the recipe on the box of Barilla no-boil lasagna noodles. It's delicious. Make sure to use the Barilla marinara sauce in a jar. I use this recipe and get compliments every time. |
