What about the Thunder Grill or B Smith restaurants in Union Station. Are they good?

B. Smith was good back in the day. Haven't been in about 15 years.

Thunder Grill -- adequate is more like it. Fine for travelers & tourists. You'll do better going out.

If you don't mind a very short cab ride, Fiola and Central are both nearby. Both wonderful. PPs' earlier suggestions are all good.

Go to Bistro Bis. All of the others are just okay, but Bistro Bis is consistently very good.

I had one of the worst meals I have ever had a B Smiths about three years ago. The potato dish actually had still raw potatoes in it. I would avoid this one.

The restaurants in Union Station leave something to be desired, although the counter service ones like Au Bon Pain, Chipotle and Roti are fine.

Toscana is great and has a wonderful patio

Love Charlie Palmer's.

Another vote for Bistro Bis. Charlie Palmer Steaks also good, and not just steaks in spite of the full name. Art & Soul highly overrated.

In the other direction from Union Station Bistro Cacao is pretty good. And there is also a German place though I can't remember the name. I think they are actually next door to one another.

H St is a little more of a walk, but Granville Moore's is great for Mussels and Belgian beers. At that point though, you might as well go over to Penn Quarter and some of the great options there.

For casual fast food, as a former Chicagoan, Billy Goat Tavern is passable for an Italian Beef sandwich fix.Not as good as Buona Beef or Portillos, but passable in this city.

We had Sunday brunch there last summer and it was one of the worat ever. The holiday inn serves better food.
