I am very curious as to why you added a separate PGC schools forum.
You have so many requests for a separate FCPS or AAP forum, but you always shoot it down. Yet, the VA schools forum has nearly double the traffic of the Maryland schools forum. It makes no sense why the much smaller MD forum was split in two, while the significantly more active VA forum was left intact. Is am fcps, so the dominance of fcps topics does not bother me, but it does seem to irritate the Arlington, Loudon, and other counties. Was there some dominant reason why they were given a separate forum, yet the bustling VA forum was not? |
I am not aware of "many" requests for a separate FCPS forum. I just did a search and see that in 2012 there was a request for a separate AAP forum. There was one request for the forum and one reply saying the idea was silly. Then the discussion veered of to the topic of gifted children.
The idea of a PG Schools forum was proposed to me in an email. The idea was presented with strong arguments supporting it. Namely, PG schools face a number of challenges separate and unique from those faced in MC and that PG threads often encounter hostility in the MD forum. When I presented the idea to the MD forum, it met with near universal support. If there is significant support for a FCPS forum, then try to demonstrate that support. I'm not opposed to another county-based forum. |
I would think that if any school system within VA needed a separate forum it would be Alexandria, which whenever it comes up gets similar comments as PG topics got in the MD forum. |
I was thinking exactly the same thing. |
It isn't the volume that is the question and the reason behind the separate forum. It's the outright hostility and frequent derogatory posts that any topic on PG county seems to draw from the other MD school posters. The request was made where we could have a forum where every topic did not include insults and gratuitous comments about how irresponsible it was to have children and live/stay in PG county and where every topic on PG county didn't attract some stupid racist comment.
I agree, the few times I've spotted an interesting topic in the VA public school forums, it seems like South Arlington has the same problems that PG County has and would be most deserving of a separate forum. |
