I recently interviewed a few places. There was a job that I think I fit well and the interview was long and I got good feedback. They said they wanted to let me know later on.
Meanwhile I received another offer from one of the other interviews. I really liked the people there and think its a good job, but wasn't my first choice. I need to let them know by Friday. So I contacted the first job and told them I had an offer in hand. They said they want to finish interviewing and would know next week. Take job 1 and withdraw from 2? Take job 1 and if 2 offers, burn 1 and reneg? Have you reneg'd before? Thanks! |
| If job 1 isn't ready to give you an offer - then there's no guarantee they will. They may like you a lot, but they may like the other canidates a lot, too. Take job 2. Once you've made your decision, don't go back on it. |
| Sounds like 1 doesn't want you. No offense. If they did they'd be scrambling. Take 2 and deal with it if you have to. |
| I disagree with not backing out later if the first choice job comes through. I don't think it's ideal, and you will burn some bridges, but I think it's worth it for a better fit. |
Agreed. Jobs that want you will move up their hiring decision. They certainly wouldn't put you off to interview additional candidates. |
Sorry, but I agree with this. Years ago I was in the same boat, and when I told the place where I really wanted to work that I had another offer and had to make a decision within 48 hours, they called me back an hour later to offer the job. The response you received sounds to me like they are holding out for someone "better." |
