2 yr old dog still not fully housetrained

Any suggestions? She is a schnauzer-poodle mix. She is about 90% consistent, but every once in a while, she goes inside. Last night, about 4 hrs after relieving herself outside (and playing for a long time) she rose from her dog bed, walked downstairs, and peed on the rug. UGH! I am wondering if it might be useful to try to teach her to ring a bell when she wants to go out? Other ideas? Should I walk her more often? Reward when she pees and poops outside?

If she has an accident every few months, that's life.

My FILs dog is 10 and has to wear a diaper.

Get thee back to PetSmart or whatever it takes. The longer you let it go, the more he will go... inside.

We have a Maltese...same deal. Maybe one accident a month or every two months. Such is life with a small dog. Sigh.

Do you use a crate? That helped us a lot.

Thanks everyone! She does use a crate, and never goes to the bathroom in it. But, we limit how long we put her in the crate. She is there during the work day, but when we are home and on weekends, we prefer to have her out and about.

Try the bell...and also for really stubborn rescues, I would leash them to me so that they had to pay attention and be more likely to let me know they had to pee
