I received a suggestion to create a separate PG County Schools forum. I am inclined to do this because it seems that PG County has a number unique issues. While this would make the current MD School forum a de facto Montgomery County Schools forum, I probably won't rename it.
Thoughts on this? |
| I think this already is a de facto Montgomery County forum, so I would be excited to have a separate forum for PG and the unique issues there. I think it also would be useful to attract and retain posters from PG. With the board being overwhelmingly MoCo focused it is hard to keep a continual dialogue because new posters dont think there are many PG parents and therefore don't stick around. |
+1 I would love a PG dedicated board. The rare PG threads get buried in the MoCo ones so the more casual users from PG might never see them and respond. I think there would be more PG school threads if there was a dedicated forum. |

I agree with the other posters. I live in PG and like it! But the overwhelming PG hate on the MD school thread is overwhelming, and I think a lot of it is people who aren't actually even very familiar with PG County neighborhoods or schools.
I posted in the thread where someone suggested a PG schools forum, and at first I thought there weren't enough people on here to really use it. But I think perhaps the other PPs on this thread are probably right -- PG people don't stick around (at least on the schools thread) because it's overwhelmingly MOCO. This way, when someone asks about moving to PG and the schools, people can actually respond "well, go to the PG schools thread b/c there are people who actually live there and can give you some info" as opposed to the default "PG County is horrible" response, which, frankly, I'm tired of seeing. |
11:08 PP here. Sorry to overuse the word "overwhelming"
|
| I would also appreciate a PG County thread. |
| I mean forum |
| MoCo parent here. I think it's a great idea if it can make threads easier to find for others instead of being buried. And agree with a pp that it might provide more helpful community responses than some of the less-than-helpful usual suspects. |
| Yes. I agree. Curious why you wouldn't rename the MD forum though. |
Because I want it to remain a catch-all for state-wide issues and the occasional Howard or Ann Arundel issue that comes up. |
| I am the poster who suggested the new forum, so I am not sure if my vote is already counted. Once the new forum is created and the word gets out, there will be increased traffic on the site. |
| Please do. For those of us who live in PG, we get sick and tired of the constant ignorant anti-PG sentiment from the MoCo folks. The majority of the MoCo posters have no idea what they are talking about and yet will freely come and bash PG because it's the trendy thing to do. |

Yes, please make a separate forum for PG. I have posted questions about certain schools and have either gotten no answers, or blanketed "PG sucks". Which is neither helpful nor accurate.

Okay, give me a couple of days to set it up. Creating the forum is easy, but moving threads from this forum to the new one is a bit time-consuming.
