who leaked the Silverman Frumin emails?

Anonymous
I'm so annoyed that the Post does give their source for the emails. I guess Frumin could have done it, but not sure why he would-- why put out evidence (flaky as it is . . .) that you are slipping in the polls to a competitor? Sure, it makes Silverman look bad, but throwing dirt at a competitor that gets you dirty too seems like a bad move-- especially when there are so many other choices besides you and this one other competitor.

this makes a big difference to me. She asked to keep it confidential, so it looks bad to me if Frumin released it. But if Frumin didn't do it, who did? Mara seems to have the most to gain from this, but how could he have gotten the emails and passed them on to Post? Mole in Frumin's circle?

Thanks to those who can shed light on the source!

I'm moving this to politics because it doesn't have anything to do with schools. But, Elissa released the emails herself. Your question really should be who released the initial story? I think someone said something to the wrong person. As you note, Mara has a lot to gain. Both the Frumin and Silverman campaigns involve people close to the Mara campaign. I can easily see the wrong thing being said after a couple of drinks. Once the initial story ran, Silverman released the emails.

thank you! I actually had intended to post in political and for some reason it posted to schools. and yes, I mean the initial story-- I'm annoyed that the Post does not provide their source for the initial story.

wow. i know you're in the tank for Frumin, but come on. that's a huge stretch.

Frumin had everything to gain by leaking the story. his campaign got hardly any coverage in the Post, and he picked up all of ZERO endorsements on blogs/online newspapers/etc, other than here on DCUM. He might have strong support on Ward 3, but it doesn't extend far beyond that, and leaking the story slowed Silverman's momentum in the last 36 hours of the campaign, while making people question her ethics and feel bad for him.

Elissa released the emails to show that, contrary to the allegation that she would HELP HIM UNSEAT MARY CHEH, she simply offered to support him in achieving his goals int he future, whether they be running again or not.

What's more... if you think that either of these candidates or someone in their "inner circles" has the TIME to sit and have a few drinks with Pat Mara's people, you're out of your mind.

Wrong. Only Silverman gained because some Frumin supporters were scared about splitting the vote. I know I was but talked around and got a big enough block to keep supporting Frumin that I felt good about it. It did make me much more active in telling people genetically to vote though as the more votes of people I know, the less of a likelihood of getting Bonds. Tell everyone you know to vote and don't be picky about for whom at this point.

Listen, I know that you are frustrated that things are not going your way. But, you really need to get a hold of yourself. This is a direct quote from Silverman's own email:

"I would be happy to support and endorse you if you decided on a run in Ward 3 or if another seat opened up."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/dc-council-candidate-silverman-releases-e-mails-to-frumin/2013/04/22/c714cc48-ab48-11e2-a8b9-2a63d75b5459_story.html

Can you tell what seats exist in Ward 3? Do you think Frumin needs an endorsement to run for an ANC position that he already holds? The only possible seat to which Silverman can be referring is Cheh's.

I don't see what Frumin had to gain from releasing this story.

Silverman has been shooting herself in the foot throughout this campaign. This is just one more case. Don't take your anger out on me. Go talk to your candidate.

in a few hours, it's not going to matter. Frumin and Silverman are both going to Lose to Bonds. Welcome to more of the same.

We can play the "who got more votes" game later, but I strongly believe that Elissa will finish higher than Frumin.

Adding to what Jeff said, Silverman made hostile comments towards Cheh at the Ward 3 Dems forum. Call me crazy, but you don't go into a Councilmember's back yard and disparage her in front of a packed room of supporters.

Add that to the face to face meeting that took place before the email exchange and it isn't too hard to figure it out.

I will add that it is incredible hubris on the part of Silverman to think she has ANY impact what so ever on political calculations in a ward where she doesn't live. Arrogant to say the least.

This is a parent centric board, of course. But there are many, many residents of the city who have higher priority issues than Focusing on DCPS capital improvements. Their views and votes are not going to show on this board today.
