How long after D&C should my lower back be hurting/sore?

Anonymous
I had a D&C late Tuesday afternoon. I've had some bleeding, but not a lot, and a little cramping, but that has mostly gone. I have had lower back pain, and this is worrying me a little bit. Is this normal now that it has been over 5 days? At first it kind of felt like it sometimes feels before you get your period but now I don't think that's it. It seems to be more on one side than the other. Did anyone else have this happen after a D&C? Thanks.

I did not have any back pain after d&c. It sounds like this is also unusual pain for you. I wouldn't hesitate to call your doc. Complications like nor getting it all or infection are rare, but nothing you want to risk.

Thanks. Can anyone else please tell me about their experiences? It has been 8 days and the sore back comes and goes a little but a new wrinkle is that my ovaries feel sore and heavy -- one side much more than the other. It sometimes feels like it did before the eggs were taken out of my ovaries before an IVF when you are superovulating -- like I have pool balls or bacce balls in there. It's been kind of odd because this didn't start until 7 days after the D&C. Everytime I am at that point where I want to call the OB to ask about this it seems to get a little better so I have held off. My OB is not too quick in returning calls anyway.

Definitely go in for an ultrasound. I had lower back pain and it turned out there was still tissue in there. I had to have a second D&C. You need to be seen to rule it out.

As for your ovaries, mine came up with cysts about a week after the first D&C but that turned out to be ok/normal. It went away.

Thanks for the response. My backpain is not fully gone but has decreased significantly. As for my ovaries being sore, that has mostly gone away too, but I can still feel it a bit. I think maybe I ovulated and that might explain why one side hurt so much more than the other. I have an appt at the end of this week so will know more then. My first D&C was awful - I would hate to have to have another one. Ugghhh.

I had D&C 2weeks and 2 days ago and having the same issue , I spoke to my Gyn physician and she said it’s the position they had me in when it was done in the hospital. I tried using Bio Freeze to massage the area and it worked for a day or so and now it’s back. I’m planning to call and get a ultrasound rx to make sure it’s not something else. I’m praying everything ok and it is muscle pain like she said.

+1

It may be a serious infection, it may be something minor- either way you need to be seen.

If you think something is wrong, advocate for yourself. My wife had a D&C back in September, and her beta never went back to zero. Finally she saw a different doctor in late November and she confirmed that the doctor who performed the D&C didn't get everything. And my wife knew this and told the doctor something was wrong, but that doctor didn't listen. She went back to a different doctor and got a hysteroscopy - all if well now.
