Just want to know what the Democrats/liberals think are so bad about the US. I love this place and although we are not perfect, neither is any where else in the world. We are still the best damn place to live. Why all the bitching. Are we not giving enough to everyone? To powerful for everyone? Should we give it all away, get rid of the military? Would that make this place better to you? Just really want to see the other sides opinion, thanks |
I'm a liberal Democrat and I don't think there's anything bad about the US, although as a nation we have lost our way.
I do believe that the US has gone way way wrong under the Bush administration, and look forward to having a Democrat in office, and restoring the rule of law to our great nation. I was born in the US and absolutely LOVE my country, (although there are people in it I am not wild about, like the ones screaming "Drill Baby Drill" and "Kill Him" at McCain rallies.) |
Wanting your nation to be the best it can be and to live up to the promise is not hating America. Who said anything about hating America? You sound like Rush Limbaugh. It's liberals who've made this country great by questioning the status quo and making things better. If "liberals" didn't push for worker rights, workplace protections -- you'd be working seven days a week with no health insurance -- and you wouldn't have been able to vote for GW Bush TWICE (cough) because you as a female wouldn't have had the right to vote in the first place.
And now Barack Obama speaks of the need for equal pay for equal work. It is STILL a problem that some women earn less for performing the exact same job. I'm sure there were people like you during women's suffrage saying the same thing....Why are you women "bitching?" This is place is great! So what if you can't vote!USA! USA! USA! I'm so tired of right-wingers bashing liberals for "hating" America or getting their panties in a bunch because Sen. So-and-so isn't wearing his flag pin. How come it wasn't an issue when Obama had his flag pin ON and McCain's lapel was Naked (Gasp!). |
you are making an assumption that I am female. If I sound like Rush Limbaugh, good. Love the man. Liberals bitch constantly about the US, how bad we are, how everyone hates us, but we still have a huge immigration problem. Imagine going to a country, leaving your on country to a place you hate, all on your on free will. Doesn't make sense to me. But I am a right winged republican. I have health insurance not thru the liberals but because I served my country. What was so better about our country when Clinton was in charge. This is what I want to know, what happen to you or the country in your liberal opinion when Bush came on board. Please do not site 911, that is a Clinton issue. |

Public opinion in many countries is very much against the United States right now, we have few allies willing to help us out. We have lost our moral authority. That's different from individals desiring to enter our country in order to make more money than they are able to make at home. And no, liberals do not bitch constantly about how "bad" the US is. We probably do rightfully complain about the extremely poor policies that the Bush administration has put into place. I can list them, but you have to promise to call it "criticism" not "bitching". A good listing of the many problems associated with the Bush administration can be found here: http://www.cs.cornell.edu/gries/bushiii/threei.pdf David Griers calls it the "Triple I Administration -- Immoral, Illegal and Incompetent." This article was written in 2006 but I'm sure there's lots more to be added since then. Please, Right Wing person, do not confuse people's criticism of a country's politicans with criticism of the country as a whole. Because you never know, a person you do not support may get elected president, and if so, you would not want your criticim of that person and his or her policies to be interpreted as "unpatriotic" ... right? |
I'm not sure any Democrat should bother replying to this person. They obviously are pretty firm in their conviction that all of us Liberals hate the US and nothing we say can change their mind. He/She is just trying to provoke. That's what happens when you get brainwashed by Limbaugh/Faux News. |
I don't know a single liberal or Democrat who dislikes this country, and I am a liberal democrat civil rights lawyer who spends most of my wakiing hours working with other liberal advocates. And I'm married to another one.
Answer me this-- do you love your spouse and child(ren)? Okay, so are they perfect? If not, do you think that real love would mean not telling your husband that he'd be happier and healthier if he didn't smoke? Not telling your children that it's wrong to hit or call people names? Or does real love mean helping your loved ones to fulfil the potential that you know that they have? Will your children be better off if you are a coach or an apologist? Will your marriage be better off if you enable your spouse to be less than s/he could be? Do you want your spouse to help you achieve your potential or tell you that you're doing great when you're not? Wearing a flag pin and insulting other people's motives does not do anything for this country. Daring to dream of a better place, and work toward realizing the dream, does more. |
I think the OP is a troll. He's (or she) has popped up in other political discussions. Probably best to leave this one alone. |
You MUST be kidding. For starters, Clinton inherited a recession from (sigh) a Republican. Clinton built the economy into a strong engine, HIGH job creation, and he left federal budget in SURPLUS; the first time in I don't know how long because a surplus sounds so rare. My DC's grandchildren will still probably be paying off the debts of our generation of war and Trillion dollar bailout of wealthy corporations. BTW, do you know what AIG was doing with their $85 billion bailout? Using it to lobby Congress to limit its control of AIG and the industry. Gee, the ink hadn't even dried yet and they were already at it trying to keep regulation at bay. That is gaul! Now what? An economy paying the consequences of playing roulette in a house of cards. All the Republican capital gains cuts and other tax cuts for the affluent over the past 8 yrs, didn't really continue that budget surplus or a healthy economy. |
Why do conservatives cling to a ridiculous narrative that being patriotic means sticking your head in the sand and believing the economy will just get better if we trust completely in the business leaders and give them free range to do whatever brings in a profit? Why do conservatives focus so much on divisive fear mongering, distrust and intolerance of other religions, races, and ethnicity and promote xenophobia?
None of those ideals are American in fact they are in contrast to the entire platform of freedom and religious tolerance that the country was founded upon. The real casualty of this election is the Republican party. We can thank the McCain camp for demolishing any gains moderate Republicans may have made over the past 20 years by appealing to the worst aspects of the conservative base. Conservatives will always vote Republican, even if the campaign messaging has made them look like fools, but moderate Republicans are crossing lines and voting Democratic. I suspect that the "liberal" label is not gaining as much traction as the McCain camp would hope because the democratic party has been able to seize the center. They are no longer defined by an edge liberal left but gain more support from the middle. The Republicans however are moving farther and farther to the right which is a long term strategic mistake. I think right now the McCain camp is simply trying to save their own careers by doing whatever to avoid a blow out despite the implications for the party down the road. |
Think Michelle Bachmann. She basically thinks Democrats are unpatriotic. See, I think Democrats as the ones who love their country and men, and Republicans as being the elite, pompous, racist and full of theivery. |
One of the things wrong in this country currently is the current administration's -- and the McCain campaign's, and the OP's -- position that if you disagree with the present-day Republican party's ideas and ideals, you are unpatriotic/a traitor/not part of the "real America"/a terrorist/a Socialist, etc. Not the case.

What I can't get my head around is how evangelicals and fundamentalists create so much distrust of people who look different than them. Aren't these "Christians" supposed to believe in brotherly love and acceptance? |
No-because all us liberals are "communists" because we believe in social causes. Mocking someone because they were a community organizer, I just want to knock their heads together. |
I am a flaminging lefty and I love my country. Which is why I fight hard for it to be better. |
