Dim sum in the DC area?

Any recs?

Looking for something good and somewhat authentic. I would prefer it not to be a hole in the wall kind of place (though I know those tend to be the best).

I went to a great place in Wheaton a while back, maybe it was silver spring? Food was great, but it was pretty grimy.

Fortune in 7 corners
Oriental east in silver spring
Hollywood east in Wheaton

If you have little ones I say Hollywood east because they start at 10am and are the least busy.

A little fancy and trying too hard, but Ping Pong Dim Sum (Dupont and Chinatown) is fun and yummy. They also have great cocktails. Definitely not grimy or dumpy.

I'm Chinese and the most authentic Dim Sum in the area is actually way up in Gaithersburg, a restaurant called New Fortune. However, when we don't want to hike that far, we go to Hollywood East in Wheaton. Oriental East in Silver Spring is above average, but I like Hollywood East better. One problem with Oriental East is that they open Sat & Sun at 11am and by 10:30 there is a line around the corner. If you don't get in line before 11am, you will not be eating before 12:15-12:30 at the earliest. The place will fill up and then you will be in line waiting until a table opens up. Frankly, the food is good, but not worth the inconvenience and the wait. Hollywood East is slightly better (IMO) and the wait (when there is one) is nowhere near as long. You'll also find slightly more Asians at Hollywood East than at Oriental East, if that matters to you (some believe that when there are more Asians, then the food is more authentic/better).

Dim sum (/?d?m?s?m/) refers to a style of Cantonese food prepared as small bite-sized or individual portions of food traditionally served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. Dim sum is also well known for the unique way it is served in some restaurants, wherein fully cooked and ready-to-serve dim sum dishes are carted around the restaurant for customers to choose their orders while seated at their tables.

SSSSSShhhhh. As it is, you have to wait outside in horrible weather for 2 hours for the good dim sum. Now it will be even more crowded.

New place in 7 Corners called Hong Kong Pearl. By Guitar Center, across from Eden. More authentic than Comet Ping Pong, for sure, but more fun dishes than the run of the mill dim sum.

I live walking distance if you are looking for Dim Sum - this is not it. This is what rich, white, yuppies think Dim Sum should be.

It's pretty bland.

The drinks however are good.
