18 follicles - CD9 - freaking out!

Anonymous
OK, I know that if there are too many they will cancel this IUI cycle and the technitian said she counted 18 (16 on one side and 2 on the other). However, only 2 are over 10mm.

She didn't want to say if that was bad or good, only that they would "call me" today to let me know what to do.

So, bad or good? What size should a follicle be on day 9 to be considered "viable"? I know I will probably have to go back a couple of times for other u/s...just wondering.

I think you will be fine.

It will probably depend partially on your age - that sounds like a lot of eggs for an IUI - I think that's how Jon and Kate plus eight had the septuplets (too many eggs IUI). - the good news is that you've responded incredibly well though and will do well with fertility treatments!

Just curious what drugs you're taking? Keep us posted! and good luck!!!

Do you have PCOS or did they have you on a large dose of meds?

How far behind are the 16 follicles that are not 10mm? If they are within 2-4mm they could/should cancel you or they could reduce your meds in hoped that just the 2 lead follicles keep growing.

Regarding viability, there is no set size they should be on day 9. Follicles usually grow 1-2mm/day. You responded nicely--I hope they lower your meds and you can continue.

OP again. Thanks for the answers... so, the nurse called yesterday and talked to my husband (I was out with our daughter..) and those were the stats (I asked him to write down everything)

Estrogen 97.9
LH: 7.1

3 measured follicles 10.9mm; 9.7mm and 12.3mm

Uterine lining: 5.4 mm (goal is 8mm)

Now, to answer your questions, I am not officially diagnosed with PCOS -never had cysts or things like that, but my doctor has me on metaphormine anyway. Before yesterday, I had only take CLOMIDE 50Mg for CD3-CD8.

Yesterday I was instructed to take Gonal F 75U and tomorrow I will return for another u/s. So far, meds wise, it is just like my treatments 4 y ago.

Iam 34btw with unexplained IF.

10:04 here again.

Glad you are staying the course. Sounds like you are in good hands with your RE monitoring you with a clomid/injectable FSH cycle. Your estrogen is rising nicely--the goal for super ovulation is usually 2-3 mature follicles and you got that. Are there any male factors involved? If not, I hope you stay on the lower end of follicle growth (1-2) to reduce the risk of triplets+.
