Any insight on Rockledge or Yorktown Elementary School in PG?

If you are a parent at either of these schools are you pleased with the education and the administration?

I'm curious about this question as well. I bought in Bowie a year ago and live in the area that feeds to Whitehall, but I looked at a few houses that fed to Rockledge. I couldn't find any information beyond some outdated demographic statistics and the standard great schools stuff. (there are reviews on the great schools web site, but they don't seem to be very recent.

We are very pleased with our child's education at Rockledge. Great administration. Excellent teachers, most of whom are all very seasoned. Differentiated instruction, which other top-rated area schools may promise but fail to deliver. Active PTA. Good communication with parents. You honestly can't go wrong here.

We were planning to go to Yorktown before finding out we got a spot in a different school through the lottery. I went to an open house and the principal seemed professional, nice and engaged. If you look at the test scores, Yorktown has increased quite a bit over previous years. The current principal used to be the assistant principal in one of the county's well-performing elementary schools so it looks like she is working to improve the school further. There also seems to be increased PTA involvement after the redistricting which resulted in the transfer of some Rockledge and Heather Hills families (that were not TAG identified) into Yorktown. I will say that after visiting the school and the principal that it lessened my concerns. The school is definitely in need of some updating in terms of facilities.

I've been in Bowie over 43 years. Both of those schools are very good.

My son is a first grader at Yorktown. He had a great kindergarten year and so far first grade going well. Both teachers were fantatic. The principal, Ms. Savoy, is also wonderful and seems to know everyone at her school We are pleased with the experience. I know several people who like Rockledge, but I don't have any person experience.
