I saw a job posted at an organization that is a perfect fit for me. It is exactly like my current job but much better. I mean to say the organization is much higher quality. A good friend has a friend that is on their board. She wrote her friend an email and cc'd me. She said I was interested in the job.
How should I go about using this contact? I have never done this before? |

Sounds like you did use the contact appropriately. Would the board member pass on your resume to the hiring dept?
I think that knowing someone mainly gets your resume in the door, makes sure someone will take a serious look at it. Your fit for the position will be the rest of the decision, I would expect. Good luck! |

If the person does not reply/reach out to you, I would give it a couple of days and then send a polite note asking if he/she will pass your resume along to the person doing the hiring or if he/she would be willing to meet with you for an informational interview so that you could learn more about the organization.
If the latter, then, when you apply for the job, put a note in your cover letter that you enjoyed meeting so-and-so and learning more about the organization from them. That way, the person doing the hiring will likely contact the person to ask them about you. |
