McCain Left On Campaign Bus Overnight

The clip is funny, but am I the only one feeling that if someone made fun of Obama's race the way this clip does of McCain's age, it would be an outrage?

No, you're not the only one. I feel the same way.

I agree, ageism is rampant.

I don't even think the clip is funny.

I don't support MCCain, but the things I don't like about him aren't related to his age. He's pretty shard for a 72 year old guy. Well, not late at night. But his lack of ability to be sharp late at night is WAAAAAAy down on my list of things that concern me about him.

On the humorous side: As a guy in my 60's, I am awed by the fact that McCain was able to go through a 90 minute debate without a bathroom break.

On the more serious side, as a senior aware of my own slowing down, I think there are legitimate issues about age that are not parallel to racial bias.

Maybe he was wearing a diaper. A $5,000, Needless Markup diaper.

Wait a second. I think this video was meant to be a joke. That thing at the end with the monitoring device that looks like it's for a dog? And the print at the end that says he was soothed by the Governor's scent? And the way the bus looked -- like a pack of coyotes ransacked it?

I think we've been Rick Rolled, so to speak.

Right, like dementia and Alzheimer's like Reagan had. That has to be one of the best kept secrets.

Yes, the clip is a joke. It's branded as being from "The Onion" which is a satirical news/comedy pub.

On a purely personal note, I am so looking forward to my dh having to deal with that in his 60s so he'll stop making fun of me having to go to the bathroom. If I were in that debate, I would not have drunk any fluid all afternoon just to get ready. The hell with memorizing sound bites!

Well, you can't say it about women or Jews either. Have old folks been enslaved, oppressed, rounded up? No. Rather, politicians are pretty deferential to them because they vote!

Frankly, senior citizens should get their eyes and reflexes checked annually, if you see the kind of car accidents they get into because they go 15 in a 40 mph zone (in Phoenix suburbs) or mistake the gas pedal for the brakes and end up seriously injuring or killing innocent bystanders. But, politicians won't touch this one.

Ah. Yet the aged is the only minority group to which we all eventually belong (hopefully). You'd think there would be more empathy, but apparently not.

I have a lot of empathy for this confused, sad and angry old man. Doesn't mean I would want to vote for him though.

I don't need to empathize, being one of them. This is not meant as bragging, but I have a PhD in math, and can still remember stuff I learned in college and grad school, down to the way the page looked in the textbook. But when I pick up a book that I was reading a few days ago, I have to go back and reread, because I have forgotten most of what I read. I don't claim every old guy in the world becomes a sieve like me, but we've seen enough hints of it in McCain's case that it ought to be a factor people take into account.
