Do you have ParaGard, Mirena, or other? Do you like it? Any pros/cons? TIA Thinking of getting one in the next couple of weeks, just wanted to get some feedback.
I ment IUC not IUD
Mine fell out/moved/disappeared and I did not find out until found I was pregnant.
I have the Mirena and have been very happy with it. I will tell you this though, the first few months SUCK. Well, at least they did for me. I was spotting almost every day. Most of the time it wasn't a lot, but it was enough that I had to wear some type of liner almost every day. But after that time passed, my periods have become lighter and sometimes even non-existent. I've had it for almost 2 years now. Oh yeah, it also hurts when it is inserted. But after its done, you don't feel it again.
I had one put in this May a few months after giving birth (Mirena). I love it because we know we don't want to have another child for at least 3-4 years and this is a no brainer birth control method. I am nursing and so the regular pill is not an option and I don't trust myself to remember to take the mini pill at the exact same time everyday. It was a quick and simple procedure (less than 5 min) and I honestly don't realize it's there. There was some light bleeding when it was first inserted, but that has completely stopped. I haven't had a period, but that could be due to BF. I like the fact that there are no hormones in the body, except for local ones. I think it's as realiable as the pill, although the PP's story makes me a bit nervous. I would recommend it.

I have the Mirena and totally love it. I did not have spotting like 13:31 had. I did not think it was any worse than a pap smear to have it inserted. Not fun, but over fast and then: totally effortless, super-effective, immediately-reversible birth control for years. Love. It.
You are supposed to reach up and feel the "string" to make sure it's still there every month. Your provider should also check a couple months after inserting it, and then at your annual exam, to make sure it's still in place. |
I always have problems with depression and mood swings when on the pill (I think I've tried them all)-Are the hormone levels low enough in an IUD that folks don't have the kinds of emotional reactions often associated with the pill?
Not sure what is the difference between IUD and IUC...but I used to have IUD when young and single, and loved it so much. When we started TTCing, I endured two ectopic pregnancies. I did not have any of the common risk factors (STDs mainly)...but did an extensive research and found out that IUD can contribute to it. Of course, my IUD at the time was a stone age type compared to what is probably available now. I am not even saying my IUD contributed to my problems. Just what I found out during research...maybe something you could also ask your doc especially if you want to have more kids in the future.
I have the Mirena and its great. Most people I know love it - most people's periods almost disapear (not mine, but its lighter than before at least). I had one friend who had an eptopic right after getting the Mirena, but that is rare.

I have had Mirena for 5 years. Here is my experience:
- easy and no more painful than PAP to insert - constant light spotting for first several months - no bleeding for years after the initial spotting - only in the past year did I resume spotting -- and only after intercourse - no emotional ups/down that you get when either on the pill or just from normal mensturation in general - some "dryness" initially Overall - I think it is an excellent form of birth control and am getting ready to have another one inserted (Mirena lasts 5 years). Consider that it can be expensive - make sure your insurance covers it or that you are prepared for the expense. |
