Palin interview on CNN

Anonymous
I saw parts of it this morning. She has really improved in her interview technique but I still can't say she is top notch -- and it's probably too late to undo all the damage done by the Gibson/Hannity/Couric interviews -- but I think she is no longer embarrassing to the campaign.

And of course she did the "I didn't say Obama is a socialist, Joe the Plumber did" little redbaiting dance, which I find really scary. So anyone who raises taxes on any part of society is a socialist now -- but George Bush who is actually buying up banks just did what had to be done.

At any rate, has anyone seen the whole interview? What did you think?

OP again -- just watched the whole thing on line: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/10/21/griffin.palin.interview.cnn

Hmmm...don't know if it was because I was working out when I saw the first bits or whether I've just been setting the bar low for her, but I was less impressed when I saw the whole interview. Like I said, not a huge embarrassment to the campaign now but also not that big of a plus, either.

Just watched about half. It is MUCH better than previous interviews but content-wise it's still very superficial. I do think it's too late for her to undo the damage.

I honestly think Palin was on some kind of drug or medication when she did the Couric interview.

She was just completely zoned out and spacey for that one. Like she had taken cold medicine or a tranquilizer. Or maybe she had been up all night.

I'm no fan of hers, but the other interviews she has done at least are coherent. Her Couric interview was something different completely.

I agree with this PP about the Couric interview. While I'm no fan of Palin either, the CNN interview was actually impressive given the short amount of time she's been on the national stage. It's too late for her to undo the damage of the Couric interview, in particular. The McCain campaign was completely off base in choosing to sequester her from the media. That simply focused laser-like attention on the few interviews she did do.

Maybe not so off-base. This way at least people can say (as you guys are) that Couric was a fluke. But those other two interview were really bad too, they just paled in comparison to Couric. Imagine if there had been 10 more like them!

Couric did not throw any gotcha questions. They were pretty easy questions. One question I recall from the Couric interview was about Palin's involvement in foreign policy, given her comment about her international experience based on Russia's proximity to Alaska. Maybe she didn't expect anybody to question her about her claims point blank.

Had Palin been medicated, I am sure the RNC/McCain campaign would have elucidated her adoring fans about that fact.

Ya think?

"Palin was so nervous about the Couric interview, she took a Xanax beforehand; unfortunately she took one too many. This, combined with the fact that Trig kept her up all night (she had a plugged duct as a result of a drastically reduced breastfeeding schedule) made her a bit loopy, and that is why her answers seemed a bit incoherent"?

I can't think of a way to spin that, if something like that had happened.

A plugged up duct makes a bf-ing mother loopy? Puh-leeez.

Is this the excuse to use at meetings with heads of other countries? I ducts are plugged and I'm a little loopy. There's no way I can use this excuse at mere staff meetings going over day-to-day administrative steps that don't affect people of the free or oppressed world.

If I had made such a lame comment about my foreign policy experience, I'd be studying long and hard on what my response will be, because that question will come to gnaw my ass in future interviews.

Uh -- no.

Staying up all night (hypothetically) and then taking a Xanax (hypothetically) could (hypothetically) make someone a bit loopy. No matter what the reason were, for staying up all night. I gave one (hypothetical) possibility... that happened to me when I had a 6 month old.

And you are proving my point -- if something like that were the reason she was so particularly incoherent during that interview, then there's really no way to share that with the public in a way that in any way sounds professional and/or vice presidential.

I'm not interested in your hypotheticals. I want the facts and the truth. The truth is Sarah Palin is a dim wit.

I agree. But I was responding to (someone's) point, who said:

"Had Palin been medicated, I am sure the RNC/McCain campaign would have elucidated her adoring fans about that fact."

I disagree with that, because I can't think of a way that they coudl have done so, that woud not have made matters worse than they already were.
