Connecticut College

Please tell me about Connecticut College.

Probably my info is out of date but - conservative; preppy; good bright students; campus is hilly and long.

I graduated from there about 8 years ago. Its a small liberal arts school and when you look around at the students it looks like a JCrew catalog. But this is pretty much the case with most of the small liberal arts schools on the East Coast. The students tend to be very bright, liberal, usually wealthy, and many of them are from the suburbs of Boston. I loved almost all my professors and class sizes are small. The environment definitely encourages debate and discussion and many of the exams are taken by honor code (no supervision).

Also when I was there the school was working towards diversifying their student body. So they are very active in recruiting international students and minority students from more disadvantaged backgrounds. But I have no idea what it looks like now.

The campus is pretty isolated from the town and when I was there had very little interaction with it. The industries in New London have dried up so most of the town is a little depressing.

Saftey School.

My info is definitely old, but when I turned there in the mid 90s it seemed like a nice, second tier Liberal Arts college. They seemed to have an interesting honors group that I was accepted to, but I ended up deciding to go somewhere else. My main issue was I wanted a SLAC that had a computer science program, and it didn't.

What are similar schools?

Furman might be considered similar but with better weather.

You can take Amtrak direct from the New London station to Union Station. Pretty convenient to come home for breaks.

Does Connecticut College still have a predominantly female student body? May have changed--don't know.

Thats the national disparity as well. Many colleges skew female.

Thanks. I didn't realize there could be that much of a discrepancy--not good for those women looking for a husband!

What are some SLACs that have computer science programs? This is what my DC wants.
