| Hi, we are mortgage shopping and want to check with one credit union. Who is yours and do you like? Thanks for the benefit of your experience! |
|
we looked at Signal and PenFed, and chose Signal. The closing costs were a bit higher at one and the rate was a bit higher at the other (don't remember which).
Neither were particularly awesome to work with--lost documents, typos, things being done at the absolute last minute, etc. But I'm not sure any bank or CU is any better. |
| We had a terrible experience with PenFed with our refinance. They lost all of our paperwork and we had non-stop problems. It took us months to get it cleared up and some stuff we cannot figure out how to clear it up. We used USAA the first time and it was a breeze but they sold our mortgage after saying they don't sell mortgages so we don't trust them anymore with that. |
| If you are in Montgomery County, call Lafayette Federal Credit Union. They used to only do Potomac but expanded to all of Montgomery County. Their rates blew away anyone else. |
| When we were shopping around for a mortgage and then to re-finance a few years later, I checked with several credit unions and was unimpressed with the interest rates or their mortgage services. for personal banking and for auto loans, I have had great experience with the credit union (Navy federal credit union and several others) but not for mortgages. |
