I am currently an attorney with a federal agency, where I handle employment-related administrative litigation (MSPB/EEOC) and also provide advice to management. I'm eligible to take the ALJ exam and thus get on the "cert" for various ALJ positions, which I understand are typically at SSA (for starters, although I'm sure that could to other ALJ positions once you make the list). Does anyone know whether the ALJ position would be more or less work/stress than my current job, which is extremely busy? While I probably work no more than 80 hours per PP, my time during the day is extremely packed, and I am constantly working. I eat lunch at my desk every day, take no more than a few very short breaks, and I carry a blackberry which I am always checking due to demanding managers with questions, as well as an active litigation case load (discovery/motions/etc).
