I adore Randall, but I don't like his wife. She seems a little cold and way too serious. That was rude and bitchy how she asked Kevin to leave after a few days.

You don't think she is completely stressed with an almost, new pregnancy and dying long-lost FIL? Why would she have to be flexible with a millionaire, semi-babied, BIL who while charming, sucks up a lot of air?

Tied in so beautifully with the painting and his theory that the time is no matter. That it's all the same time, or that differences in time are so much closer than we think.

I think that was Jack's grandfather

His wife seems like a saint to me, at this point. I hope we get to know more about her background.

So her husband's bio dad suddenly shows up and is sick with cancer, and starts living in her home? And her brother in law, who just showed up without any prior notice? That's a lot of sudden, unplanned interruption in your home and daily life. She seems like she's keeping it all together amazingly well and cool, plus trying to support her husband and all his family issues, plus a possible unplanned pregnancy.

I know it's TV, but I think few of us would handle such sudden disruption, all at once, so calmly.

I loved all of Randall's scenes last night. The hotel thing was spot on, and I love how he and his wife relate to each other. I loved the pregnancy result scene.

Also, I know someone mentioned the fashions were wrong, but fashion moved more slowly pre-internet and also in the midwest. It might have been big hair in the 80s on the coasts but it took a while for department stores in the middle to get the "cool stuff" we saw on television, and then even a bit longer for it to become not weird to try to wear those outfits.

I'm from Wisconsin, and we had big hair all through the 80s. Still have it in some parts of the state.

Yes, but did 80's big hair start as early as January 1980 when this episode took place (and a year or two before)? It was still pretty much feathered hair, Farrah Fawcett/Charlie's Angels, as well as some short hair styles a la Dorothy Hamill. At least I had the latter for several years after the 76 Olympics (Thanks Mom!), and I grew up on a coast. It's like in Mad Men that shows that the "60's" didn't really start until after Kennedy was assassinated and the first major incursions into Vietnam and SE Asia.

I thought we were more talking about the scenes in 1988 in which there was still no big hair.

It had to be Jack's grandfather. It looked to be about 1910, and the man was about 18, so, unless Jack's Dad was in his 50's when Jack was born, it had to be the grandfather. I was curious as to where he was immigrating from. That period of history was so interesting!

I love Randall too! Think his story and character is the best on the show with Kate coming in second.

I'm not much of a crier but the scene where Kate brings the urn out and Randall is grieving his dad got me teary eyed.

Lost my dad several years ago and still feel his loss so much.

I liked that a lot and liked the idea that they left themselves open to branch way up and out for some story arcs.

I know its beating a dead horse but they totally confirmed they got the challenger timing wrong unless they skipped grades. Because they were conceived at the steeler's 4th superbowl win- 1980.

Uhhh no, she's fine. Her husband randomly brings home his bio father who is a recovering addict and dying of cancer, she accommodated him graciously. Then her husband's brother (who isn't that close with his own brother) randomly drops in unannounced and makes himself comfortable. And you also missed that she switched up her birth control which was affecting her hormones and mood.

I cried like a baby too! I do love this show.
