What item could you “afford” but don’t buy?

A house.

I am a DINK and we both do well but like having a nice new condo. I'd rather be house rich and travel a lot.

I never understood this craze either. But my prescription sunglasses are pricey and I can’t do anything about that.

Warby Parker or other online places will help you save money on prescription glasses. I have a really strong prescription and my glasses from my eye doctor used to cost $500. Now they are $150.

Warby Parker is great. I'll say that with a strong prescription it's best to go in store though so they can help you pick glasses that will work with thickness of the lens. My dh ran into that issue, they were fantastic in store.

As someone with a super high prescription (-12.0) I wish they had smaller frames!

A new house
A new car for my husband
Annual financial gifting to my grown kids
As many concerts as my bestie goes to lol
More travel
List goes on and on

I don't buy a lot because I'm not consumerist

I could afford a yacht but my spouse wouldn’t let me go for it.

Private school. My kids prefer to stay with neighborhood kids.

Country Club. I cannot stand the pretentiousness out them.

I look for beach houses too but ended up just renting. Never went wrong.

That's easy. Most things people buy that they they don't really need, but want. I don't even own a home at the moment. I have very good reasons for for not buying anything.

Same, although the amenities of a cc membership are appealing some days.

I want a pinball machine but then remember I can go to an arcade and play 20 of them for $20 the whole day without the fuss of one at home.

Why don’t you give annual financial gifts to your grown kids if you can afford it? They need cash more when they’re younger and have high expenses.

A new car. We could buy a nice one outright, but my 2008 hatchback remains comfy to drive, and I’m never stressed about maneuvering it in the city, because it’s already covered in dings. I will drive it into the ground.

A subscription to the My Subaru app, which just expired.

I loved being able to check my tire pressure by looking at my phone. I just don't love it $100/year.

A Tesla or any other EV. Fortunate enough to be able to buy an ICE vehicle for the remainder of my driving years.
