Let’s also compare lack of reading ability to math ability. Maryland is also behind other states in the science of reading. |
Need equity. |
I work in Baltimore City and this is the truth. I looked online a few years ago to find a contact number for someone at North Ave. I found a pdf 20+ pages long of North Ave employees. Ridiculous. Now those luxury cars are parked at home for the most part. They’ve been working at home since then while we are dying in schools with no subs and not enough teachers and paras. |
I am pretty sure the MCAP is self adjusting. As kids answer questions correctly it gives them more difficult questions next until they start to struggle. However, if you can read well enough to understand or infer the question and answers it doesn’t really matter what your math skills are. |
No doubt, the home-life is a major (if not THE major) issue in Baltimore. But we, as a government of the people, can do something about the schools. Private home life of others? - not so much. |
As long as you're not firing teachers just based on the students' performance. The best teacher in the world couldn't take an unwilling student from a home that doesn't care and turn them into a passing student. |
Would showing more Disney movies help? |
Let's look at the real problem. It is the breakdown in the family structure. Until you solve that problem, you're not going to fix the schools.
I can't imagine how difficult it must be for a single parent to work and raise the kids. The structure with a single mom and grandma raising the kids is not working. I don't know how you solve the problem of dads not taking responsibility and being present in the kids lives, but until you change that, nothing is going to change in the schools. |
Seems like a waste of funds honestly. Like the millions Zuckerberg poured into Newark. It’s like how you can’t out-exercise a crap diet |
require testing for HPV for men and make it legal to get money for stds and for children born out of wedlock. Tie these men down somehow to their own promiscuity. |
What year are you posting from? |
This, but it isn’t just the dads that are failing their kids. Many of the moms are are too. There are a lot of single parents in low socioeconomic neighborhoods that aren’t even working and are at home smoking weed or other drugs. There is a large degree of not caring about education and just not caring to parent. This is a parent problem, not a school or teacher problem. |
It’s not “self adjusting.” You can Google released tests from prior school years to see the test for yourself. |
They should do what MCPS is doing. Lower the standards so that everyone can pass and pump more money into it. |
They have done that for years but you can’t do that for state testing. I would love to see the attendance rates at these schools. My Baltimore City school has a chronic absentee rate over 50% and we are considered a good school. |
