Cats are disgusting way more than any well trained dogs and I will defend that forever basically. Only one shits and pisses in the house as a matter of daily course. And yes, I've walked into a 6000 Sq ft house1 where you can't smell that litter box in the basement but they all seem to have accidents and cat pee is just...a totally different and disgusting beast. Lord help toy if have a "sprayer." |
I'm not a dog person. I like boundaries, and dogs don't have any (because most owners don't train them). The jumping, the walking all over the place, the unpredictability.
I probably just hate crappy dog owners more than dogs themselves, but there are an overwhelming number of crappy dog owners that it's hard to not lump them all together. |
I love animals. So much that I don't eat them. Have been a vegetarian since I was a tween. But I don't like to be around dogs. They sniff my crotch, lick me, have no boundaries and are gross. I'm not a dog person but that doesn't make me a bad person. |
I like dogs...as long as I don’t own one. Don’t want the work or responsibility and being tied to the house or having to pay big bucks for a sitter etc. They just don’t fit into our life . Too much work. After raising 4 kids I want a simpler life and some free time at some point . |
This is me too. I love and respect animals. I am a vegetarian too. But I am not a dog (or cat) person. I don’t like the idea of having pets (my kids really want a pet though so that day may come) and don’t enjoy being around them at others’ houses either. I care about their well-being and don’t want any bad to come to them but I find them really annoying and invasive (of my space and my senses—I have a really sensitive nose for example and hate typical pet smells in the house.) |
I have a dog and have had several dogs in the past and I would never say that I'm a dog person. I'm probably more of a cat person but could easily live without pets.
I grow to love the specific animal that lives with me and generally speaking, I think cats and dogs are cute. I think that's different from being a "dog person." We have the dog because it's a nice addition to our family. I do care for the dog and recognize the benefits (and also the negatives) of having the dog. The dog is definitely NOT one of my children. |
We’ve trained our dog since puppyhood and she’s still wild. On walks, she gets so excited when she sees other dogs that she jumps 5 feet in the air and barks. She can’t be let in backyards because she’ll run wild, tearing everything up and barking. I love walking, but walks aren’t enjoyable for me at all anymore because she literally does not care I’m there. She’s seriously the most ADHD dog ever, spends the whole walk jumping around and chasing everything. We’ve tried punishment, we’ve tried treats, doesn’t care about any of it. I’m not a fan of shock collars but I’m seriously considering training her with one because I don’t know how else to get her to focus. It’s bad enough that the only way to get her to calm down is to grab her collar hard and yell, I know people judge me. And that doesn’t even prevent the bad behavior, she still does it just as much, it’s just the only way to stop it. It was even that way in puppy class, we did a punishment based puppy class when positive reinforcement wasn’t working, the trainer literally yelled at her and smacked her the entire time and it did nothing to stop the barking and jumping at other dogs. We’ve done classes, hired trainers, had strict rules from Day 1. I just think she’s not meant to be a pet dog, she’s a labradoodle and I think has strong genes to be a hunting dog. My kids would be devastated if we re-homed her, but I feel like I’m just counting down the days until she dies and I can have a peaceful live again. |
I love my 2 dogs but not other peoples. I’m a my dog person. |
No, small dogs are the worst. The most poorly behaved, jumpy, barky, and obnoxious. I'm not a dog person, but I'll take a mellow big dog any day over an annoying small dog with zero boundaries or self control. |
I wasn't a dog person until we got a dog. Now I am a dog person but with limits--some dogs are poorly behaved and I don't allow our dog on our bed or let her lick my face. I like all dogs from a distance now, whereas before I didn't even notice dogs. |
Although I don't currently have one, I love dogs. However, there are things that other people do with their dogs that I wouldn't do, so to those people it may seem that I don't like dogs and therefore, should never have one. |
I didn’t grow up with dogs. I have liked a small number of specific dogs I’ve gotten to know, but honestly found a lot more truly annoying, messy, or scary. I am a cat person. |
It’s funny the diversity of people. I respect your feelings on this of course but I can admit I can say the same thing you did except about people. I generally don’t like most people. And I like most dogs. I don’t wish people harm etc as you stated but I find most people annoying and I basically can’t stand most of them, though I’m courteous and smile at them and use my manners. |
Therapy might help you. |
My guess is that OP encountered a poorly trained dog and gave it a wide berth, and the dog's owner said that as a put-down.
I love dogs and really dislike irresponsible owners. |
