Arlington SOLs

Ok, my kid failed. What should I do?

Don’t tell them.
If they are in elementary ask what interventions will be given this year to catch them up.

In other states, lots of kids did poorly over the last year. I'm guessing Virginia will be the same.

+1

It’s no big deal, I promise.

Unless you suspect a learning disability or something.

Will they let us repeat a grade? Seems like holding back students would be the best option at this point.

Talk to the school but it's almost certainly not. Lots of kids didn't learn everything they should have last year and will be in the same boat.

I am VERY curious to see the pass rates broken down by county and school. Any predictions?

And when do those come out?

You JUST found out!? I'm sorry about that. damn. Demand the school remediate and overask so they have something to say no to.

My kid with learning disorders passed them all! Amazing! He and his team worked hard this past year and the data demonstrate all of their commitments paid off.

I'm so happy for you! When I found out one of the students I work with passed I cried tears of joy. This year was so hard but there were some bright spots!

Fascinating… My kids scored average on SOL‘s but on the advanced end of math and reading inventory. Are they not correlated somehow now? Who would I contact at their school over the summer to understand?

Each test is one data point, your kid is likely on the higher end of average.

This is obviously our first time dealing with SOLs. Trying to figure out how we should feel about this. I always had high scores on standardized tests as a kid. I'm trying not to care. And my kid will never know this matters to me other than that I was them to try their best. But trying to figure out if it's actually common for this type of score.

This sometimes happens in 3rd since it's their first time taking the SOLs
