PSA Don’t fly American

Joke is on you. United is WORSE.

This is OP - not condoning what we did but we had to lie and say we were bringing the car back to the same place in order to get one. I’m sure we’ll get fined like crazy but at this point I don’t care. Hertz wanted $1000 for 12 hours.

For those saying bring your own seats - we have very nice car seats both at home and the destination we came from. Hold your judgment, I was never going to haul three car seats in the off chance our flight got CANCELLED (not delayed). Now I just won’t ever fly American, lesson learned.

You always travel with cheap car seats for this reason. Much safer. We never ever traveled without seats. It can happen on any airline. Why didn't you take the seats that you had at the destination and then use those.

Because they didn't make it to their last destination...they had to rent a car to drive there

I’m sorry, OP. American is so shitty and boycott worthy. Something similar happened to me flying back from my aunt’s funeral in Jackson, MS. After lots of screaming and yelling in the airport. AA’s customer service was out of control rude and unprofessional about the matter and it really escalated the situation. And I never yell at retail/customer service workers, ever, and here I was in a yelling match with the desk agent as I was taking the escalator to the lower level to collect a rental car to drive from Jackson to Atlanta to catch a flight back to DC from Atlanta. Which it still boggles my mind that the solution to my flight being cancelled due to maintenance issues was for me to rent a car and drive multiple hours to catch a flight the next morning in a different city. And this was a few years ago so it’s totally unrelated to covid aftermath. American is just an all around shitty airline and should be avoided at all costs.

We've flown American twice since April, once to Hawaii, and have had no problems. I'm also flying AA to LAX in August and they just changed my return flight from a changeover in PHX to nonstop to DCA. So it's either not all bad or we're just lucky.

You all do realize that there is a shortage of pilots? The industry itself is not ready to come back as quickly as a demand has presented itself. You can only do so much with the staffing issues in this country. Do you think it’s bad now wait.
