I had no preference until my wife kept pressuring me to guess the gender. I picked boy just because I followed some old wives' tale about her being combative and angry all the time. For about three months we just went with it being a boy. I started envisioning about 21 years worth of father-son talks, his first girlfriend, him winning the Superbowl, Stanley Cup and NBA Championship in the same year. We got to the doc's office for the second sonogram and this big head popped up on screen and get punching back at the lab tech's poking and prodding. I said, "Look at him...fighting already. He's going to be Heavyweight Champ."
Then the tech said, "And those things right there are the lips of the vagina forming." I don't remember anything else she said after that. The Superbowl, Stanley Cup and NBA Championship were all cancelled that year in my fantasy. The next thought in my head was some girl in a dress looking up at me saying "pleeeease daddy" and me handing over a wallet full of cash so that she could go buy something from the mall. Surprisingly, I was equally happy with both fantasies. |

"#1 Secretly wanted a girl. That's what we got and 9 years later she's still fabulous. #2 I was convinced was a boy. In hindsight I think I was just psyching myself into being okay if it was a boy."
Haha, I think that is what I was doing with #2... although I think I was more convinced it was a boy because I couldn't possibly have gotten my way two times and had two girls! Found out #2 was a boy and was definitely surprised and a little disappointed that I wouldn't be able to use all of DD's cute clothes... but I've come around and am really excited to have a little dude. Have to wait another month to meet him! |
Glad you are happy with both fantasies, but you know, don't discard the first one (or its equivalent) just because of gender! I don't know what gender my parents wanted (if any), but what they got were two girls who were into martial arts and competitive sports, not the mall. So you never know! |
