How much is a lot? For a kid applying to prestigious schools, I'd go up to 20. I think it's foolish not to. There is no way of knowing what the institutional priorities are.
If you keep Brown on the list and decided to knock off Dartmouth. That could have been the one you got into for a reason you'll never understand. Why limit just to limit? Better to apply to all of them. Or else, end up at BU if you're very lucky...why? Because it's so craaaaaazy to apply to a few more colleges?? Please. |
That isn’t as clear cut as you think. One of mine goes to school in PA, and the other in CT. Both are absolutely shocked at the number of Trumpers up there. |
| I had my DC pick 4 reaches, 4 matches, and 2 safeties. We made a list together, based on what he wanted and what I could afford, and then he picked the schools to apply to based on those criteria. |
There is a big urban/rural divide in this country. I have a kid at a liberal SLAC in a rural area purple state and he has friends that were harassed after the election. And we have ongoing concerns about potential violence. Even in VA, kids going to schools in rural areas of ROVA are going to have a lot of Trumpers. |
No outside of VA considers VA anything other than the south, but I think people strongly underestimate the number of people still flying Trump flags in New Jersey and New York. |
Yes. Even in "blue states," there are a whole lot of red counties, and many colleges are located in these areas. |
