What happens when a person stops organized sports in college?

A family friend played very competitive soccer, and could have played in college, but decided she didn't want to. She plays club soccer for fun. She's still really active, but her whole life was kind of about soccer, and now it's not. She was very clear that she wanted soccer to be fun, and knew that if she played in college, it would be work.
