Anybody Else Thinking of Not Filling Out Whole Census Form?

we just answered the # of residents in our home. Not all the details. Invasive.

If it's not consitutonally required (and nobody has proved on this forum or elsewhere that it is) to answer anything beyond how many people live in your house, then I am not happy answering. But I will probably answer anyway because we are already slouching inexorably towards socialism.

You do realize the census IS in the constitution, right?

In Article 1, Section 2, the Constitution includes the phrase:

[An] Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.

Congress first met in 1789, and the first national census was held in 1790.

Even Joseph and Mary had to give information to the census. And they had to travel to do it.

You don't make it harder for them. You just don't get counted. And that means resources go to the places where people DO fill it out.

Every ten years this happens, whether there is a Republican, Democrat or even a Whig in the White House. It has been tested over and over again. You are required to fill out the census. If you don't, you are handing over money to someone else and violating the Constitution.

I miss the Whigs. Seriously OP, you can help prevent socialism by filling it out. In socialist countries (I've lived in one), they don't give a hoot if you document your existence. They make up information. Citizens are silenced. Don't silence yourself. I sure as hell want to be counted by something other than elections run by whomever has the most money at the time. (Don't get me started on campaign finance.)

Well, it'll cost you. For every 1% of the population that doesn't return their census form, the government will spend 85 million dollars of your tax money going door-to-door to get the information!

Kinda seems like how SS#s were used way beyond the initial purpose of collecting and providing social security benefits. What about health info data, biodata storage and RFID tracking for non-criminals?

Why?

Weren't you asked to list the provenance of your child? Or is just that her "provenance" is different, so she was put off by it, and you weren't because yours are biological?

There are 4 people in my nuclear family, nobody is the same race. I filled out the census.--who really cares?

Frankly, I have more important things to worry about.

ABSOLUTELY!

I would heartily recommend that everyone who lives inside the District and other liberal areas fill out the census, and return it in a timely fashion.

Everyone living in conservative areas, please tear it up: otherwise the black helicopters will come for you.

The census workers visit those who haven't sent in their forms and they may call those who sent it in but they need some clarification. So what happens if you fill out some of the questions but not ones like your name, birth date and phone #? Is this where part of the 30 or so percent of non-participants comes in?

Were you this paranoid under GWB?

I doubt this kind of paranoia is newly developed.

I dunno PP, the level of hysteria in this country from conservatives seems extreme and unwarranted to me. I find it so ironic that they didn't bat an eye when GWB was dismantling the constitution but now they are afraid to give "Czar Obama" their basic info in a census. I seriously doubt, if McCain were in office, that the paranoid person talking about "nefarious" govt purposes would be so worked up about a census. "slouching towards socialism" indeed..... reference "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" and "approaching dark force with a ghastly and dangerous purpose" ???? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Second_Coming_(poem)

I heard on NPR this morning (there, I've outed my media bias!) that for every person who is counted in the census, it brings about $1400 to that person's community in some form of benefit or service. That's a lot of added up cash in communities where people insist on not being counted, that can negatively impact roads, schools and other vital services for decades to come.

Did Obama ever provide his college and law school transcripts and LSAT scores? What's he hiding?
