Terrified of general anesthesia

Anonymous
I have been under general three times over the past several years for cancer treatment and it was very relaxing when sedated. Six months ago I had a detached retina and was put under, then brought out, after my eye was “prepared”. I was give sedatives but was warned not to move to avoid the surgeon slipping and causing me to go blind. I am fully recovered now but it was terrifying.

Please someone give me their stories of NOT waking up in the middle of surgery unable to move or scream? Because I am irrationally worried about it.

This does not happen.

I had general anesthesia three times in one week (once in the ER and twice in the OR) after an accident. I was fine. Anesthesia is a miracle. Enjoy it. The only weird part was that the anesthesia had in the OR gave me retrograde amnesia so I have no memory of actually getting to the OR or being anesthesthetized.

Thanks so much everyone! (This is OP). I had my surgery this morning with zero issues. They even gave me something to take away my anxiety since I was basically crying in pre op, so I felt relaxed and cheerful as they wheeled me in, and then I remember them saying "we are going to start to put you under now, ok?" and then I woke up in recovery.

I really appreciated all of the reassuring stories.
