I don’t love any of the cars in my budget. How to choose?

What should I do DCUM?

Take the bus everywhere for a week. Then you will appreciate the choices you do have.

Sorry I don't have much sympathy for this kind od "problem". Most people don't have $40,000 to spend on a car.

This is such a personal decision. For me, a car is a utilitarian purchase. I will feel best if I buy the most reliable car with the highest resale with the least amount of maintenance. Which is generally a used Toyota.

But if I’m buying something for my home—like windows—the utilitarian window (say, a high performing vinyl) would make me feel bad every time I looked at it. So I choose to spend more on things like that.

Most of us can’t have the very best of everything—but some of us are lucky enough that we can make certain purchases be higher end ones—whether that’s clothes or travel or cars.

What will you think every time you get in that car? If it’s a crappy feeling, maybe it’s worth it lease or spend more. Of course your husband’s feelings matter too here.

What an odd post. I wasn't asking anyone to feel sorry for me. I acknowledged that 45K is a lot to spend on a car, hence my frustration. I was simply asking opinions on what things to prioritize over other things.

See I think your post was odd. Who complains about this? Only someone with too much money and living in a bubble to not appreciate their good fortune ( and in some cases hard work)

Have you thought about an Explorer? I LOVE mine. Got my ST for $46k- not the highest highest trim but still pretty darn nice.

That was our exact budget and we got a Subaru Ascent and I love it. Beautiful interior and so spacious. I realize it’s not a Volvo or Lexus or Mercedes, but it is surprisingly nice and I enjoy driving it every day.

Yes there is. Read up on super wealthy people who leave their kids ton of money and kids have no drive and do drugs.

NP. The car section of dcum is probably not a good place to hang out if you think choosing between a Highlander and Pilot is living large. The finance section would make your head explode.

This topic is recent topics. My head will not explode simpletons by simply reading and commenting.

Hubby worked with cars, we drove different one every day, and I loved the Pacifica. Highly rec!!! It's so nice to drive.

What about the Toyota 4Runner? It gets crappy mileage, but it's in your price range and is ridiculously reliable. Great resale value, too.

Well why don't you head over there then and tell them all they "make too much money and are living in a bubble." That will be productive. /s

DCUM is the land of the UMC and rich. This can't come as a surprise. Not sure why it upsets you so much.
