Why are Americans anti-rice?

African-American, I eat lots of rice.

OP, why not introduce them to some nice chicken, lamb or beef biryani?

Please settle the debate of whether or not they are actually eating spaghetti and hot dogs in the same meal, op. Lol

50 something female going through menopause. I only have to look at any carb (rice, pasta, even the good carbs like sweet potato), and I gain 5 pounds. So I avoid rice, but serve it (or pasta or potato) at every meal for my husband and 2 sons. I just don't eat it.

You think the people OP is describing, who eat spaghetti with hot dogs, are “afraid of carbs”?

Are you able to read? Serious question.

OP listed two foods her IL's eat. She didn't say they eat spaghetti with hot dogs.

I have family members who like to eat lower carb. If I serve a meal where the carbs are incorporated (e.g. spaghetti with meat sauce, jambalaya) they'll eat it, but if I serve something where there's a side dish of carbs -- whether that's bread, or mashed potatoes, or rice, they won't take any. It's one way to reduce the calories of the meal.

Yeah. Really odd that people are coming in over and over to post about this supposed combination.

Rice is not healthy. It keeps billions of people alive, but it’s not healthy.

People get crazy ideas about food. I had a roommate who wouldn’t eat carrots because they have too much sugar but he’d drink sever cokes every day.

What is actually hilarious is that spaghetti and hotdogs is an Asian dish loved by Filipinos. The combo is super common and is readily available at pretty much any Filipino gathering. 😂

Still waiting for PP to address the claim that people eating spaghetti and hot dog buns all the time are afraid of carbs 🤔

Sure it is. Billions of Asians can’t be wrong. It’s a staple because it has carbs and carbs are an important component of a good diet. I run 30-40 miles a week and eat rice or some other carb every day along with vegetables, fruits, protein.

I grew up in the Midwest in the 80s and we ate quite a bit of rice. It's a staple in our family now too (my husband is from the northeast if that matters). We eat rice as a side dish pretty often with fish or stir fry, we eat cilantro lime rice with mexican food, we eat rice with Indian food, we eat red beans and rice at least once a month. So, yes, we are solidly white American upper middle class and eat rice a lot! We actually eat very little pasta. We probably only have pasta once or twice a month and rice more like once a week.

Spaghetti and hot dog is very American, especially if spaghetti is put of a can.
Americans eat junk, don’t follow that road.
