PP just adding we are mid thirties. And also - the majority of people responding on this thread are upper class/rich and don't live in reality.

No, upper class rich are my relatives who are third-fourth generation wealthy who have sold homes for $10 million as well as spend their time at a multiple domestic and international owned properties. They are not working professionals nor need a salary to maintain their current lifestyle.

HHI: $370k

Ages: 53 and 51

HHI: 290,000

HHI $410K
NW $8M
Early 50's

HHI: 525
NW: 1M
Family size: 4

Before anybody chides me about my net worth, DH is in big law and we had student loans so our income to debt ratio increased a ton in the past few years.

I consider myself upper middle class because there was some NYT article about what constitutes upper middle class and we fit the bill.

HHI: $600K

I know it's a typo, but early 59s made me laugh.

Age: 40

Very similar -
40 and consider ourselves UMC
HHI 190k
NW 3.5M
Family size 4

How’d you accumulate yours? For us, it’s just the fact that we married young and always invested half.

PP here - it is mostly family money- gifted or inherited. But I think we are pretty smart with our money but will probably loosen the strings a little bit as the kids get older and we age into our 40s

Then, your relatives are extremely blessed when it comes to money. Wealthier than 99.9% of the US. Most DCUM posters have less than that, but are still in the elite nationwide. The DC area is a bubble, and our skewed perception of wealth and class is not grounded in reality. Household income in the DC metro area is higher than most places in the country, so although many of us call ourselves middle class or upper middle class, we’re really not. We’re upper class. Median household income in the US is only around $65k.

Without age the numbers are meaningless

Age has nothing to do with middle class.

All of you are rich. UMC is Middle class - $80-120K in this area. This is silly to pretend you are middle class on $200K or more income and that much in savings. Middle class generally don't have that kind of savings and live pay check to pay check. If you live in a million dollar house you are not UMC. If you earn what is posted here, you are not UMC.

We’re similar. 250k HHI, NW around 800k not including pensions, and we are a family of 4. Ages 35 and 40. We’ve also admittedly had some parental help with things like a downpayment and summer camps ($$$) that help keep us more in line with the UMC or else we’d be nowhere near our neighbors who (based on jobs in big law, finance, medicine, etc.) are likely making much more than us. We also only recently hit 250k and should be closer to 300k in the next few years, so NW should go up with income and when our youngest is out of expensive preschool.

None of the above with the net worth in the millions is UMC. You are wealthy, guys. Congrats!
