My 22 year old rented a Jeep Renegade while traveling. (This happened pre-pandemic.) He fell asleep at the wheel and went off the road (Mass Pike) going probably 75-80. He hit - head on - a tree and totaled the car.
He climbed out with a broken finger. Until that day -- I always thought the lower end Jeeps were crap. But of course think differently now! Buy the safest car you can afford. |
| 16 ds drives a 2019 Subaru Impreza--good safety tech, slow, relatively inexpensive, top IIHS crash ratings. |
Jeeps are trash. Designed for trash. Driven by trash. |
Said by the boring car driver who isn't a safe driver. |
I'd go with something like this

If you are considering Elantra, what about the other Hyundai options like Hyundai Kona SEL? We wanted to stay under 20K and have safety items like lane assist and blind spot monitoring. I’m not a sedan person so we looked at both the Venue and Kona and the Kona was a little roomier. There is a 3 year maintenance with new cars plus the Hyundai warranty which is longer than most other car makers. We kept it under 20K by going with FWD and buying during one of the Cash back promo/offers going on right now and finding the car the dealer would negotiate on in colors we could live with i.e. no apple green.
Here is an article mentioning the Kona for teen drivers and the cars mentioned included Mazda 3 which a pp mentioned and Kia Forte. https://www.caranddriver.com/research/a31267569/cars-for-teens/ |
There’s absolutely nothing boring about my P85D with Ludicrous. And with Autopilot mode, I don’t even need to drive. I’m much safer than you in your gas guzzler four wheel drive phallic replacement. |
If it weren’t for Jeeps, most of Europe would be speaking German. What did your shitbox Hyundai do to win the war? |
Very very boring. And, autopilot isn't always safe. Just had a major crash. But, I guess as a bad driver you need it. I can guarantee you I spend much less on gas than you do. |
