Refused treatment for UTI

Get a new doctor.

Also, CVS Minute clinics and or any urgent care would be better than your current doctor. They are idiots.

If the longer culture comes back negative then they should send you to a URO GYN not no antibiotics. There would be an underlying reason for the pain.

Are you saying that the culture results can come back in minutes, or am I misreading you?

I think they mean the doctor’s office can determine if bacteria is present in the urine during the office visit. The actual culture to see how the bacteria reacts to the antibiotics is not immediate.

Thanks, but I was trying to determine what PP meant by writing that, and I'm still interested in PP's response.

Sort of related. I suffered from UTIs off and on for almost a year and the doctors couldn't figure it out. Took different antibiotics and they'd go away but then come back. A NP from the urology practice suggested taking D-Mannose and that seemed to do the trick. Got it from Amazon (500 mg, the brand is NOW, orange bottle).

I hope you let the NP know that Lab Corps was going to make you wait for days. That can't be right.

That’s awful. Minute Clinic has been great for UTIs. They’ll give you antibiotics and do a culture... if the culture comes back showing you need different abs they just switch your prescription.

+1 why on earth would you go to the ER during covid for a UTI??? Omg.

Oh you would be shocked what people come into the ER for. I definitely had to put on a poker face for some people's complaints.

Random example... any drug store any UTI test.. five to ten bucks. two minute job..

Why did you need to go to ER for the test alone OP?

Infections kill people. Infections that hang around untreated while an arrogant, cookbook, insecure, in knowledgeable “health care practitioner” waits for confirmatory labs are more likely to kill people.

Part of the art of medicine is the knowledge, experience and confidence to make a good judgment and begin treatment and then have the diagnosis confirmed or adjusted when the labs come back.

There is no excuse for how you were treated. You need a new primary care PHYSICIAN.

Ok alarmist. Did you know UTIs can clear on their own? Did you know only a small fraction lead to a kidney infection? Most patients can safely wait until the culture comes back with pain relief. Not all but most. It is the pain and discomfort that need to be treat immediately.

Ear infections and UTIs are over medicated. They have pulled back on automatic antibiotics for ear infections and are finally beginning with UTIs.

Some people just don’t know. I’m always surprised when people go to the ER for minor stuff, but...it happens.

Sitting here thinking rationally, yeah, I wouldn’t go to the ER for a UTI. But when in the middle of one, in great pain and feverish, I might. UTIs can get pretty bad pretty quickly and they always seem to spike out of control in the middle of the night. I’ve had them so bad, I’d be willing to see a witch doctor at that point.

I second Minute Clinic for UTIs! I had one last week and was able to schedule a telemedicine appt online and actually have the appointment within two hours. The antibiotics were waiting for me less than 30 minutes later.

In the last year, I've started using the online healthcare provider Wisp for recurring ITIs, yeast infections, and BV. (Don't ask, lol.) You have to pay $60, but to me, it's worth it to avoid going anywhere and talking to anyone. You fill out a survey on your symptoms. If a doctor has questions, they'll follow up with you, but I've used them 6 times for the above issues and have never been asked questions. I believe a similar company is called Uqora. So convenient!

What are you “trying to determine”? Are you conducting an investigation? It’s quite clear what PP meant.
